Lasik Surgery
Lasik is an
excellent method of vision correction if a person is tired of
constantly wearing contact lenses and eyeglasses. This
laser-assisted refractive surgery is fast, and compared to
other eye surgery methods, relatively simple and painless.
With a satisfaction rate ranging between 92-98% over the
years, Lasik is easily the best method of permanent eye
corrective surgery that is currently available.
The operation
begins by using a metal blade or thin laser to cut a flap,
which is then folded back to reveal the cornea. The cornea is
remoulded with another laser for optimum vision improvement.
The flap is than laid back into place and examined. The flap
will heal itself naturally over time without the use of
stitches or adhesions. The full healing period is six months,
although improved eyesight is usually gained over a period of
one week or longer.
Lasik is not
recommended for everyone, unfortunately. Nearsighted or
shortsighted individuals with Myopia are excellent candidates
for Lasik. The opposite affliction of Hyperopia, known as
farsightedness or long-sightedness, is also curable with Lasik
surgery. Astigmatism is also fixable with Lasik. Requirements
for performing this procedure include an age minimum of 18,
and the patient’s eyesight must be stable for two years. This
will exclude most elderly patients, as gradually worsening
vision cannot be helped with Lasik.
Lasik is a
fantastic invention that has allowed many individuals to live
their lives free of the bother and clutter associated with
contact lenses or eyeglasses. It can correct the vision of a
person to a perfect 20/20, which may have been impossible with
prescriptions prior to surgery due to extremely bad eyesight.
Like any surgery, Lasik is traumatic to the body- this surgery
comes with a downside as well. Complications such as worsened
vision, under corrected eyesight, in-growth, flap
dislocations, dry eyes, and side effects such as halos,
ghosts, and starbursts are all distinct possibilities. Lasik
may not restore 20/20 vision to everyone, making the wearing
of corrective lenses necessary in addition to the procedure.
However, over an eight year period the FDA only received 140
reports of dissatisfaction.
Like any
surgical procedure, Lasik has its pros and cons- both risks
and benefits. Thorough research and a well-chosen surgeon may
eliminate most risk factors. The technology and methods used
during Lasik continue to improve over the years, making this
great choice for anyone who wants a safe, permanent way to
improve their vision.

UK purchasers could save a lot of
money by buying
monthly car insurance instead of yearly policies if their
circumstances require this. Alternatively, if you need a car
for just a few days then why not go for
short term insurance or
temporary
car insurance cover instead?
